I may be too late, or this may not fulfill the entire contest requirement, but I'll post it anyway.
The Hermit Crab
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
Guts? Don’t wanna know
Wits? Bare minimum
Charm? You’ll make me laugh
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
Here comes a little feast
He’ll eat the whole box now
Despite the sorrowed search
Of its owner later on
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
And look, the box is what
He wanted all along
Who cares that it belonged
To someone else
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
How long, I wonder now
Did he sit and wait his chance
After he saw that box
Has he nothing else to do?
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
So he’s climbed inside that box
At least, part of him has
Can’t he make his own?
Maybe he needs more wits
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
Did you even know the man
Who created what you took
Or did you just see a pretty thing
And didn’t want to tax yourself?
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
Well I knew him pretty well
What he made was all he wanted
To make his own home here again
Gee, thanks a lot
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
But it’s not true that you can’t
Make things on your own
You certainly can make
This place into an empty dessert.
Behold the hermit crab
Bloated sea-rachnid
Topped with bobble eyes
Waits for passers by
To feed itself
(Note: I wrote this some time ago, in anguished response to a situation which thankfully turned out simply to be a misunderstanding.)
