I'm Valyre . My name is Patrick. I'm 22, live in Ontario, and am a recent university graduate. My main is only level 20, but I stopped levelling in order to start ranking up since I decided it was time to join a guild. I just made it to Viscount, tho I have at least one alt that is a Seneschal. Speaking of, what is the guild policy on alts? The more the merrier (guild power huzzah!) or do we keep them outside? If we can bring them in I think I have about 10 or 12. All of which (Seneschal aside) I'm currently not questing on in order to rank up. I'll go back to questing with each toon as they respectively hit max rank. Aside from that, it's nice to find an active group of players with a broad knowledge base. Now maybe if I remember some of my questions I can get some answers Atm I don't have much to my name aside from a couple of 54d CSB (one crafted and one donated). I'm hoping that once I have the ranks down questing on so many toons at once will aid in the gear building. EDIT: Found the gear donation post, so I know where to send pieces now! Yay for exploration

Welcome Valyre! I'm sorry I didn't post this sooner, I had some RL obligations to attend to today and am just now making it here. There are no rules on number of alts to have in our fine clan. As you said, "the more the merrier." And I'm glad that you did indeed find one thing you were looking for. I'll send out a little welcoming package to help you out a bit. (it will come from one of my alts, and I'll include a note) Here are some other places of interest around this site that we W&Wers call home: If you are one that enjoys writing, The Parlor of Glory is one place to stop: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rpboardWant to just have some fun with various games? or wonder how some of us have such high post counts? Try the Fun & Games forum: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gamesThere are more games in this forum and some of the games even have contest to win gear for DC: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=contestNeeding an upgrade, check this out: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=uppiesAnd if you would like a sig, there are a few in this forum who would be more than happy to whip one up for you (Toki, myself and a couple others in fact): jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sigsHave unanswered questions about Dragon Court? This forum has almost any answer you would have. And if it's not there, post your question and someone will find the answer: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=questionsAnd finally, this forum you will be able to post poetry or other fine works of written art: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=artThere are plenty of other forums that are just waiting to be explored, especially the first one where we post our Daily Stat Gains or our Best Finds of the Day: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generalOnce again, welcome to our world... which is now a part of your world! And don't forget to stop by the Towne Square "Tavern" where LOTS of fun is had on occasion. (check my Towne Square Review out in the last forum I posted to see what kind of shenanigans are sometimes experienced) wild.ffiends.com/DCourt/TSquare.stm

Thanks for all the info! I've sent apps for all my alts to get them tucked in. I really appreciate the care package as well. I wasn't planning on scrounging around for anything until I could put it all to good use and keep it oiled. Oils seem almost as hard as a silver for me to find and the blessing eats through my cash like no one's business . My second piece of business was to send a 100a glad and a 70d great targe the their respective guild armorer accounts. I dunno if anyone will ever use the targe but I'm sure the glad will find a home. Alts: Syphon - Count ValOfFSW - Count Ephion - Count Fegolee - Countess Vbank - Countess Vbank2 - Count Vbank3 - Baron DeaconG - Duke Dreamscape86 - Duke Aridhol - Earl SeikShade - Earl Dreamscape - Seneschal It'll be my priority to get everyone to Sen before I go back to questing, so for now I'm only questing on Dreamscape. He's level 30, so I can at least quest in Hie Brasil to search for gear for when my toons all hit 21. Nice pieces I pick up in the meantime tho I'll forward along

thanks for the donations valyre!
Welcome in our great clan.
thanks you for ranking up all those alts! U seems to have a good plan-strategy to help your new community-family called W&W, , so we'll try our best to help you too! I'm gonna send you some oils for all your needs!
Good luck in your next questing trips, and to discover our forum!

I figure it's the least I can do. Taking so much time off questing hurts only in the short run. In the long run I'm sure I'll eventually ask for some help, so why not start out by bringing my own to the table.
I put a question to Bre but I will ask you as well since any input would be great. What direction should I be going with the guild skills? I know enough to avoid Ieatsu, but aside from that I'm not sure where the balance is. I almost feel like I really only need to generate 5 or 10 levels of Sage to avoid those dang faery dodging mezzes =/. Aside from that maybe the token 4 levels of trader for the retaining the quest while fleeing thing. I really can't see any reason to pick up Mage/Fighter levels, aside from the obvious benefit of letting you put on better gear.
I could be wrong about where I stand tho, hence I'm asking whoever I can for their two cents. Just in case I'm missing some important angle.

A question similar to this was asked in the salamander tavern back in may.. Here's what i answered to that person.. I hope it helps you.
Sage skills will end up being the most important usually.. They prevent ieatsu, backstab, and mesmerizing which will pay off once you're fighting in azteca.
Trader skills also work well, as they help when running from monsters you don't wanna fight. Running from certain monsters will gain you a wit, and with enough trader skills, you will even get your quest back. Seeing as how wits are the hardest thing to gain, some mage skills may be semi important to you also.
Most would agree that ieatsu skills are pretty much useless after a certain point because they offer NO stat gain possibility.
I would say that for a level 20 character, with 40 skill slots, i would probably get like.. 15 - 20 Sage and spend the remainder evenly on berserk/ mage/ trader.. But i probably wouldn't exceed 10 of any skills other than Sage..
You might not need a large amount of sage skills now, but later down the line you will want them for fighting the jaguars in azteca because they mezz you like crazy.. They're the most common creature to run into, and they can try hypnosis every turn, so if it tried hypnosis and you didn't kill it, it might try hypnosis again.. Plus you have the warriors trying to backstab or ieatsu you and it adds up and pays off to have sage skills...

My overall plan is pretty simple. I wasn't planning on picking up fighter levels unless I get desperate for level 31 gear, which I might (tho I hope I don't). I also am not planning on picking up Mage levels because I'm had terrible luck in the past in terms of gaining wits. If someone thinks it's actually reliable let me know, but for now I feel like it might not be worth the lost stats.
Basically I was going to pick up the Trader skills necessary for the free quest, can't remember if it's 4 or 6, and then 10-20 levels of Sage.
Maybe I just have really bad luck gaining stats but I always feel like guild skills are such a huge drain on my statline =/

Every time I gain a level I always hate going to the guild to get all those skills used up. But I'd rather get it over with at the beginning of a level to have the whole level to get my stats back up. Something I do in my sig area when that happens is something like this:
guts:155(160) wits:157(161 charm:247(256)
Of course the numbers are made up, but the numbers in the parenthesis would be my stats before I trained. And each time I updated my stats with gains, I'd keep that higher number there until I got my stats back.
My guild skills are fairly even and I rarely get mezzed. (Now watch... tonight I will play and get mezzed every time) I hunt in Hie Brasil, Shangrila and Azteca. I run from the Harpies, the sirens.... the weird looking guy in Shangrila (can't ever think of what he's called)... run from the jaguar, answer the Hero and the Spirit guy their silly questions, kill that burly looking guy who wants to take my bushidos I've been collecting and pretty much kill anything else.
I think if I am tired and not paying attention, I might not notice when something is hitting me too hard and I might end up dying. But that's just me and how I've been doing it.

That's really what I'm wondering, is whether all the stat loss is worth the theoretical stat gains from having the skill.

It depends. All guilds skills are not equal. It depends on what stats you want to accentuate, how you want to play the game, etc. If you want to use mezzing a lot, then build up your magic guild skills. If you want to just fight and build up your guts, get more fighter skills. The clan sig master (and council member) Toki has formulated a strategy I use, which keeps berzerk skills low and uses mostly trader and sage skills. Trader skills allow you to run away from a creature better the more you have, and the more times you can successfully run away, the greater your odds of gaining wits. And as you know for when your character gets to a higher level, wits can be the hardest thing to gain. Trader plays a double gain in that it allows you to backstab or swindle, which can lead to charm or guts gain. For more great playing strategies involving guild skills, go here: jackthebear.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tips&action=display&thread=4547And remember, that even though losing stats you just gained seems like a big hit, you can more easily replenish lost stats like that if you build your guild skills across time - and stat gains are easier when you're in lower levels too. When I was majorly skill building with my main, it took me about two or three months to gain ten stat points, because every time I gained a few, I'd go and get a guild skill - thus, I had no real net loss. I wasn't losing anything, even if I wasn't gaining much either. So take a look around, especially at the strategy boards (Omniscient Oracle>Tips, Hints, Strategies) and find yourself the way that seems best to you. Oh...and welcome!!
