This game was touched off by a suggestion from Torra. I recently celebrated my thousandth post here at W&W HQ, but though - being a medievalist at heart - that I'd do something special for my 1,066th post. Like a giveaway! So here's what will happen. You'll see a grid attached, set up like a Bingo board - A-D across the top and 1-4 along the side. Behind every tile is a fact, having a date and something that happened in the year 1066. Everyone who participates will get a rare or in a few cases, a silver. However, the challenge will not end here. If anyone can - after all the tiles have been turned over - post here the correct order you think the events happened in, they will get a CJF! I will periodically update the table. If we've progressed so far, it' be great to announce winners by the bday. As with many of these things, I ask you let a few people post after you before you repost. Thanks for helping me celebrate so many posts!! EDIT -- I included an attached file here that I shouldn't have, which just has the above grid in a word format. Please do not download. Thanks! You will see some first names appear in the fact boxes, but because of space I did not include last names or who they were. Here's a guide:
Edward: Edward the Confessor, King of England Harold: Harold II, Harold Godwinson, King of England William: Duke William II of Normandy, King William of England, known before 1066 both as "The Conqueror" because of his military prowess and "The Bastard" for his questionable parentage. Guess which one gets higher billing? Edgar: Edgar the Ætheling, proclaimed but uncrowned King of England Vikings: Are vikings in general, but specifically refer to vikings led by King Harald Hardrada of Norway, in league with Tostig Godwinson, brother to Harold. Conan: Conan II, Duke of Brittany. A Celtic ruler who wrested control of Brittany from his uncle and fought with his neighbors, including Duke William. He died from poisoned gloves at Château-Gontier. William was suspected.
Hope this helps!
