kinda late, but oh well, here it is lol
He yawned a bit as he slowly opened his eyes and blinked a couple of times to clear his sight, the small human he’d met the other night was already awake and looked at him with curiosity.
“What interests you so o’ little one?” He asked the little human.
“Well, I have never seen a dragon before as you know, so I took some time to look at you.” The small one replied.”
“Very well little one, then take a good look.” He replied and arose in his full might, spreading his powerful wings and flapping them creating a strong gust that made it hard for the little Eric to keep standing.”
“Amazing, that is some incredible power you have in those wings big fellow.” The little Eric said and smiled.
“Thank you o’ little one, now please stand aside, for it is time for me to use the strength of these wings.” He said.
“What do you mean big fellow?” Eric asked somewhat surprised.
“I mean that it is time for me to leave this cave o’ little one.” He said and looked towards the entrance of the cave.
“Are you sure big fellow? Is it really safe to leave this place?” Eric asked.
He turned to the little human with narrowed eyes and asked in a deep and dark voice befitting of his kind.
“Why would it not be safe little one? Dragons are the strongest of all creatures inhabiting this planet and I venture out from here once every month to eat.”
Eric swallowed a bit before he continued.
“Well, humans have evolved a bit since when you met them last time. It might not be safe for you to run into them again.”
He looked towards the entrance to the cave again before he turned to Eric and spoke in a somewhat softer voice.
“I will not feel as if I’m a prisoner in my own home little one. I will leave here today in search for food, if you wish you may accompany me.”
“Alright big fellow, calm down, I was just a thought. If you leave I’ll be happy to accompany you.” Eric said with an uneasy smile.
“Very well little one, then climb onto my neck and hang on tight.”
He lay down so the little human could climb onto his neck and grab a hold on his horns, then he stood up and walked out of the cave into the new sunlight. He stood there and basked in the warmth for a while, he had not been in the sun for over a month now and he enjoyed its warmth, even if the light was a bit too strong for his eyes. He remained like that for a few minutes until his eyes had adjusted to the strong light before he spread his wings and took flight into the sky at high speed. Together with the little human clinging to his neck he pushed through the wind streams before he reached an altitude where he could soar through the air with ease.
“Do you enjoy the flight o’ little one?” He asked the little human clinging onto him.
“This is amazing big fellow!” Eric screamed as the wind brushed through his hair.
His mouth turned into something that might be called a smile before he rode a wind down over the nearby hills. His sharp eyes peered over the mountain slopes, searching for the flocks of goats that usually roamed here. The skies were clear this day and the sights were favourable, therefore it was easy for him to spot a large heard of goats that calmly stood and ate about forty miles away. He took some strong strokes with his wings and climbed to a higher altitude were the goats would not notice him easily. When he were satisfied with the height he soared slowly towards the goats, making sure not to attract any attention until he was but one mile away from them. Now the goats began to sense him and some perhaps also caught a small scent of him and he could see how the heard became restless. He drew his wings close to his body as he pressed the air out of his body and made a terrifying high pitch sound. Then he charged towards the goats at an incredible speed as they began to scatter in fear. But he soon caught up with a few of them and let loose the fearsome sound once again before he struck his large fangs into the one of his choice, it was a large male that would provide him with a very good meal. Still with the large goat in his mouth he turned for another flight over the fleeing goats, usually he only took one large male for a meal, which was enough to sustain him for a whole month, but now he also had the small human to feed. He knew that in spite of their small stature humans consumed a tremendous amount of food. He therefore took aim at one of semi-adult males and as he flew by it at high speed he grabbed it with his front right feet, the goat began to scream in terror so he quickly pierced its throat with one of his claws and ended the poor goats’ screams. After this he began to flap heavily with his large wings again and increased his altitude rapidly, leaving the both ground and the goats far behind. As he flew he took out the goat from his mouth with his left front feet.
“What did you think of the hunt little one?” He asked the human sitting on him.
“That was amazing big fellow, how can you fly that fast? It felt faster then a racing car.” Eric replied in an almost stunned awe.
“I’ve never heard of a racing car little one, but my wings are rather strong and also my body has many cavities that I can fill with air. That makes my body light when I fly and then I can easily make high speed, and when I need to make a swift landing or dive I simply press that air out to give myself a thinner but more compact body. That makes it easier for me to approach the ground with haste.”
“That is truly fascinating big fellow.” Eric said with a big smile where he sat between his horns.
Groth’dar smiled slightly before he spread his wings wide and began to circle in big motions, they were already near home and he slowly descended back down towards the cave. He returned the goat in his left front feet to his mouth and then landed, he first touched down gently with his rear legs and then put down his left front leg for support before he folded his large black wings back against his body. He lay the goat in his right feet down on the ground and then lay himself down as well to allow the little human to dismount.
“There you go little one, this goat is for you.” He said when Eric had jumped of.
“For me big fellow? Wow, thank you, I was actually starting to grow rather hungry.” Eric said and smiled before he walked over to the backpack he had brought and took out some plates and cooking gear.
“What is all that for o’ little one?” He asked the little human.
“This is so that I can cook the meat big fellow, humans can’t eat raw meat.”
“Hmmm. I see, well, if you would like we can roast the goat over an open fire for you.”
“That would be nice, it sounds very good.” Eric said with a big smile.
He turned around and headed for some nearby trees, although he wasn’t very used to walking on the ground since he mostly either flew or lay down so he wasn’t very fast on his feet. When he reached the trees he raised his strong right front leg and gave one of the trees a great punch, effectively ripping it down with roots and all. He then used his claws to tear of all the branches from it. He then turned to Eric and said.
“Would you please grab these branches for me? I’m an not very well adapted to hold onto this small and thin items.”
“Sure thing big fellow” Eric said and went over and grabbed some of the branches, for him they were so large that he had to drag them behind him up too the cave. There he began to chop them up with a small hand hatchet he had in his pack until the wood were at good lengths for the fire. When he had chopped the branches into small logs he laid them into a good base for the fire. He then begun to search his backpack for matches. Groth’dar looked at him as he sat there searching.
“What are you looking for little one?” He asked the human.
“I’m looking for matches to light this fire big fellow.” Eric replied.
“I do not know what matches are little one, but they are not needed here. ” He said and breathed a stream of hot flames at the wood that quickly caught fire.
“Wow!” Eric said and fell backwards.
“I told you before that I breathe flames little one. Do you perhaps have a sword or a knife to carve the meat with?”
The little human was too amazed to reply at first, but then he nodded slightly.
“I don’t have a sword big fellow, but I have a good and sharp knife.” Eric said and pulled it out of his pack before he went over to the goat and prepared it for the fire.
Groth’dar looked at the little human preparing the meat before he went over to his own prey, took it in his mouth and brought it over by the fire as well. Once Eric was finished with the preparations he began to roast some of the meat over the fire while Groth’dar lay down beside him. It had been a long day with the hunt and the sun had already begun to slowly go down beyond the horizon while casting an almost magical red light over the two friends. They spent the evening there together, talking about both the old and the new while enjoying a royal feast together. This was a moment that none of them would ever forget.
