(here is the next one, sorry about the delay)
Eric whistled with awe.
“Wow, then you have seen much of the humans progress in this world haven’t you?”
He shook his head.
“Not really little one, you see I have rarely left my cave. I usually only leave here once a month to eat, and finding food here is easily done without crossing paths with humans. The only times I usually comes across humans is when I leave on a long journey to find a female dragon and mate, we Black dragons only do that once every 1000 years. Although I did spend some time out on my first mating season when I was little over 1000 years old and then I came across some humans during my travels.”
Eric pondered for a while before turning to Groth’dar again.
“That should have been around the time of the Greeks and Romans then, right?”
He nodded and looked at Eric.
“Very correct little one, I remember some of them calling themselves that, they were in general quite intelligent and friendly to me and did me no harm so I left them alone. But at this time I learned of them killing some lesser dragons such as a hydra and a serpent, then things were starting to get unpleasant so I decided to return to my resting-place since I had already mated. I do not like to resort to violence and therefore I decided not to get involved in this struggle.”
Eric nodded in agreement.
“I understand big fellow, fighting is not a pleasant thing. So, did you ever encounter humans again?”
He nodded back.
“Yes, when another 1000 years had passed I once again set out to mate, this time I also met humans, they still clad themselves in shining metal and hid themselves behind big walls so it felt not much had changed. I didn’t spend that much time amongst the humans now since it was obvious that they feared me now. Once I was even forced into fighting some of them, ending up eating one of them and killing a few others. I really didn’t have any choice since they cornered me in the cave where I rested overnight. There they came with fire, swords and spears trying to kill me, so I had to defend myself.”
Eric nodded again.
“I understand big fellow. Sometimes we are forced to actions we do not wish to take. But please tell me a little more about the history of the dragons my friend.”
Groth’dar nodded then once again stared a bit dreaming into the darkness.
“Yes, as I said before the black dragons where the first dragons to be born on this planet as they were born out of the great darkness that engulfed these lands. Well, after the darkness the fires and ashes from mighty volcanoes begun to spread around this world and from the fiery depths of the volcanoes the fire dragons were born. A fire dragon is somewhat smaller then a black dragon and their scales are fiery red. Therefore a fire dragon is also often called a red dragon. When the planet begun to cool they made their homes in the mighty mountains that had been formed from the lava. Just as black dragons the fire dragons breathe fire, although theirs isn’t made from poisonous gas but from other natural gasses of which they have a very high supply, therefore they can breathe mightier flames then us and for longer periods. Just as a black dragon they live quite long, although usually not more then seven thousand years.”
Eric sat and pondered a little.
“So, if the fire dragons flames are mightier then yours, does that mean that they would win in a fight over territory?”
He shook his large head.
“No little one, they are still much smaller then us and dragons scales are very heat resisting, therefore a black dragon would win due to more strength, against humans however a fire dragon can wield immense destruction with their flames.”
Eric swallowed a little.
“So big fellow, how are their temper?”
He looked at Eric a little surprised.
“Don’t worry little one, as all dragons they are quite friendly as long as they are left alone.”
Eric sighed a little.
“Good to hear, now big fellow, please continue to tell me about dragons.”
He rolled together a bit and lay his head down close to his belly so he could look at Eric while they talked.
“Sure I will little one, but please tell me first, are you feeling ok, are my inner fire enough to warm your body?”
Eric leaned against the big belly of Groth’dar.
“Yes, in fact it is amazingly comfortable, here beneath the scales it is quite soft and very warm and nice, it almost makes you feel a bit sleepy.”
He smiled a little.
“Then please go ahead and rest for a while little one, I can continue to tell you about dragons tomorrow.”
Eric yawned loudly and closed his eyes.
“Thank you my friend, good night and sleep well big fellow.”
He smiled again.
“Sleep well little one.”
After Eric had fallen asleep he lay and pondered his thoughts for a little while, how could dragons have passed into myth? He felt a bit uneasy about that and he decided that he would look more into this later and find some answers. After having pondered about this for a while he also closed his eyes and fell asleep soundly.
