This poem is about my reflection upon my high school years of experience.
High School’s Memories
Two stories high with a concrete base Forming a ‘C’ or ‘U’ from aerial view Void of vibrant color-dull and pale Dusty, beige walls and blurry windows Aromas of various foods emanate From the perforated façade of the cafeteria; Fragrance of corn, beans, and sour milk Blend unpleasantly but ultimately dissipate.
The tattered flag-banner of pride-prevails Atop the shimmering mast, Occupying the soil out back, Concealed from those ambling past. Locks that don’t always lock Roof that is semi-permeable; The color of sand suits it As water is allowed to pass through.
Students experience this atmosphere indiscriminately, For walls, though cracked, still hold them in. Stories, lessons, and classwork, graduates remember well, But evidence of these best survives On faded green and unclean chalkboards. Voices echo from end to opposite end And are soon forgotten to hallways without ears, But the walls, stalls, and desks still remember the etchings.
