Is it the glowing, the flames, or both/either that makes a Goblin Mound Worm/Sea Serpent/Anaconda want to consume your equipment? Because, I gotta say, after that blasted Azteca Anaconda swallowed my Dragon Scale Jacket, then slithered away quicker than lightning before I could berserk it and get my armour back, I sailed back to Salamander with a slight air of satisfaction. I knew that, even though I had just lost my strongest piece of defensive equipment, there were still two silver linings on this dark cloud:
1) I had accrued enough enchant scrolls, as well as all rather high-statted (for my level, anyway) Koutetsu, Jaguar Mantle, and a (very expensive but worth-it) Dragon Scale Jacket [it took a lot of visits to the jacket-maker to get it, hence the "expensiveness" of it], that I knew I would be just fine; that I knew I would survive well enough after enchanting this replacement and back-up gear for my recently eaten Jacket. (I'm certain that this jacket was a gift from an esteemed clan member; I only regret not remembering exactly who)
2[and this one's the kicker]) I achieve a much greater amount of satisfaction knowing that although my old, fairly stronger jacket was eaten by a somewhat weak but quick Anaconda, that I was not even finished questing that day before the bugger burned from the inside out, his scales left in ashes on the black sands of the ancient lands, leaving my previous jacket lost to the reaper.
Flames may attract consumption, and I know that they won't affect the attack power of a piece of armour, but this is where I find my solace when my gear gets eaten.
My protection will not satisfy your hunger.
Rather, it will give you the worst case of heartburn you have ever experienced, before you perish in flames.
