By Fade: The ten inch dragon that slept most of the day but woke toward the evening, was up and about with the sun still shining outside. Fade sensed another within the cottage he shared with his owner and he feared for his favorite apple. In the ground floor bedroom of his owner, he flaped his tiny wings enough to get to the foot of Bre'Cheye's bed. He spoke in a soft screechy little dragony voice, in the language of his kind, "Svaust ui batobot sthyr? (who is that man)" he asked the Druid who sat at the head of her bed. "He's a friend of mine," Bre'Cheye answered while propping up the magical toy that Sirinnu had given her. Her thoughts were on the one above her, who was fast asleep in one of her guest bedrooms. "Jaci desta ti sone sia achthend," (he better not eat my food) Fade said with a puff of smoke coming from his small nostrils. "Oh Fade, you silly little dragon, he's not going to eat your beans or your buritoes. And there are plenty of apples for everyone." Bre'Cheye smiled at the little dragon, "Now go back to sleep and don't worry your scaly head about your apple." Bre'Cheye smoothed the wrinkles from the quilt where she had been sitting then went back into the living room to check on the fire.

by Michaelys: Looking about, he still felt the sense of peace and loneliness of the cottage. So he knew that he hadn't been caught again. Upon hearing a sound below him, he realized that he must be in one of the upstairs rooms BreCheye had mentioned. It sounded like someone stirring up the fire, and the idea of a hot cup of coffee by a comforting hearth sounded very pleasant indeed. Standing up, he realized he must of slept in his clothes. They were already in bad shape to begin with, but now? Oh well, he shrugged. There will be time to repair his wardrobe at a later time. Seeing a washbasin nearby, and a vase of water next to it, he poured some water into the basin, stripped off his shirt and proceeeded to use a cloth to freshen up. Afterward, feeling refreshed, he looked at the worn shirt in some disgust and reluctantly put it back on. Raking his fingers thru his hair in an effort to at least make himself presentable, he opened the door and stepped out into the hallway.

After stoking the fire, she added another small stick of wood before sweeping up the wood chips left in front of the opening of the fireplace. Looking upward, she could hear movement, so she knew that Michaelys must be awake. Part of her wanted to rush up the stairs to make sure he was okay, but part of her knew that she should give him time to stretch his limbs or wash his face if he so chose to. She turned to go back into the kitchen, but stopped when she saw her magical toy teddypanda bear sitting in the middle of the living room floor.
"Teddy!" Bre'Cheye said a bit too loudly, "You shouldn't be out here. There is nothing for you to worry about!" She scooped the bear up to return him back to her bedroom.
Most usually, the teddypanda bear appeared to be just a toy and nothing more. But at moments of danger, the toy would come to life long enough to cast a stunning spell; giving it's owner time to 'get away' or whatever one would need to do. But there were also times that the magical toy came to life at inopertune moments such as this.
After depositing the now stiff toy to her bed, she entered the living room once more. She couldn't wait any longer and so she opened the door that hid the stairs, "Michaelys? Are you okay?" She stood holding the door opened, not sure if she should go upstairs or stay down here.

By Michaelys: Hearing Her voice wafting up the stairs, he knew he was in a safe place. Attempting, in vain, to straighten his tunic, he called out, "I'll be right down!" and then headed down the stairs to the partially open door. Carefully, he opened the door, and lucky that he did, or else he may have run right into her. "Oh, good mornin' Bre'." He couldn't seem to find a safe place to put his hands, so he casually crossed his arms as he squinted in the early morning light streaming thru the windows. Once again, she almost seemed to draw the light to herself, or else she just naturally had a glow about her. "Thank you for the loan of the bed. Although I can't seem to remember how I got there, I must have been more tired than I thought." he said. "I must not of tasted your pie, since I canna recall the flavor, might there be a bit left to break my fast upon?"

By Brecheye:
She slowly smiled when she saw him up and about and tried to hide the giggle with her fingers that threatened to escape her lips when she saw him crossing his arms nervously. "I'm glad that you had a good rest," she softly said before looking down at the floor. "To tell you the truth, those rooms really never get much use at all. Fade surely wouldn't sleep alone, silly little dragon."
Looking back up into his eyes, she answered his hungry question, "There's plenty of pie left if you'd like a piece of that. And I believe that my biscuits might just be about done. If you don't mind being my food test subject, you can try one or two."
She opened the door to the kitchen to check on her biscuits and continued talking as she entered the warm room, "I said those rooms up there hadn't had much use, I forgot about that one traveler."
Placing the plate with a huge piece of hot apple pie on the table, she turned around to bend down toward the oven door. "I fed him stew and when I got up the next morning, he was already gone. I think Fade and Teddy scared him so badly that he left behind some clothing and boots."
She pulled out the biscuits to place them on the top of the stove to cool then opened an above cabinet door, "I was going to throw them out since they have been taking up room in the cellar but if you think you'd maybe could use them...." Her voice trailed off as she stood leaning against the cabinet, watching him standing in the kitchen.
"Sit down!" she ordered with a smile. "Eat that pie and if you'd like, I can fix you something else." With her hand on the back of a chair that held no pie in front of it, she added, "Oh, and you fell asleep at the table. I successfully cast a levitating spell on you and just.... kinda pulled you through the air and upstairs."

By Michaelys:
Pulling out a chair, he immediately sat, then applied himself to the piece of pie. Picking up a fork he immediately took a bite. The flavors of baked apple in a light flaky crust rolled across his tongue, and he savored the taste before he swallowed.
Taking the time to enjoy it, he listened as she spoke of a dragon named Fade. Then perked up at the mention of a possible change of clothes. Before he could ask about them, however, there was a plate of fresh biscuits and honey to be tried.
By Bre'Cheye:
She set in the chair nearest his with her own saucer of a fluffy hot biscuit, then pushed a crystal covered bowl toward Michaelys, "Butter?"
Applying a small pat of butter, she tried to appease her growling stomach with a generous bite of biscuit. But all she got in return from swallowing too quickly was a growl of her stomach and a 'hiccup,' of protest that could only be squelched by a gulp of her hot wassail sitting nearby.
Rubbing the back of her neck with her fingers, she took another bite before beginning to speak, "I have all the apples, pears and other fruit gathered plus most of the vegetables as well. It's such a great feeling to be able to do certain things on my own, without having to ask for help."
She closed her eyes while sipping on the hot wassail, thinking of climbing up that ladder to the most furthest piece of fruit then climbing back down. If only her levitate spell worked each time she tried to cast it.
"Although, if help had been offered, I would have gladly taken it," she added with a tired smile.
She turned slightly in her chair away from him to point to a door to her left, and facing Michaelys as he sat at the head of the table nearest the stove. "When you want, if you want that is, that door leads to the cellar. Those clothes are down there and some bottles of ale that I bought in case I ever had a party here."
She finished her biscuit, then added another one to his plate before rising from her chair. "I am going to check on the fire again. I do believe that Winter is heading our way. It's so chilly without that fire going."
Walking from the kitchen to the living room, she left Michaelys to devour however many biscuits he wanted and the pie was within his reach as well.

By Michaelys: Listening to everything, even while savoring the hot biscuits with butter, he looked where she pointed and noted the location of the cellar, for later investigation. As she left the room, he took another sip of coffee, and took a moment to decide between another biscuit or the pie. With a smile, he took another biscuit, remembering his Mother minding him to save dessert until after the meal. As he finished off the biscuit, making sure to not leave even a crumb behind, he realized Bre'Cheye had still not returned from the other room. Getting up, he cleared the plates from the table, and carried them over to the sink. Seeing it half full of soapy water, he promptly washed the plates and utensils and set them up on the sideboard to dry. Thinking about the way he had arrived the day before, he recalled Bre' talking about a tulip bulb she had been looking for. Looking at his threadbare clothing, he decided they couldn't get any worse off, so he picked up a cloak he found hanging by the kitchen door, and proceeded to work his way around to the other side of the cottage, hoping to surprise her with that last tulip bulb. note: next installment comes from page 3, post 33

By Brecheye:
She stood in front of the fireplace staring into the flickering flames then cast a glance at the dwindling stack of firewood in the corner. She sighed as she continued to stare to the corner, "That will have to wait until later. I am not in the mood for hauling in more wood right now."
Turning to head toward the kitchen once more, she noticed her magical toy teddypanda bear laying on the couch. "Oh Teddy, why can't you stay put." Bending down to retrieve the stuffed toy that at times became animated in defense of it's owner, Bre'Cheye felt that she deserved a few moments of a break. She stretched out on the couch, clutching the teddypanda bear, and lay looking at the flames.
"I'll just lay here for about... oh.... ten minutes, then I will start on cutting up all those pears. Just a few mintues..."
The warmth of the fire enveloped her and quickly lulled her into a much needed snooze.

By Michaelys: Walking around the outside of the Cottage silently proved to be difficult. The fall leaves crunching lightly under-foot. He skirted the outside of the building and approached the garden. Looking at the trowel, he figured it couldn't be that hard to find one lone bulb. Squatting down, he proceeded to carefully dig thru the garden. . . . . . . . . Several hours later, Michaelys has worked up a sweat, and managed to get quite dirty as well. Looking at the garden in disgust, he gives up on even finding the bulb by digging. Looking around to make sure no one is nearby, he starts singly lightly. A sort of reaching is felt to hover in the air, then the half-frozen, freshly turned earth begins to glow. From the far end of the garden, the ground pushes upward, then the bulb gently raise on a curent of air and drifts over to land in his upraised palm. Smiling triumphantly, he places it into a pocket before half slumping over from the backwash of releasing the spell. The garden returns to normal as the glow fades away.

She woke from her brief nap and noted that the fire was once more burning low; it needed still more wood. She rose from the couch then remembered that her friend Michaelys was there. She looked in the kitchen for him with no results, then to the room she had levitated him to... and he was not there either. Standing in the upstairs hall with her hand at her hip, she spoke to herself, "Hmmm... I wonder where he went off to. I wonder if he left without saying goodbye." The last thought made her feel sad but it that was what he had done, left without saying goodbye, then she was sure there was some reason.
Going back downstairs, she knew that she needed to haul in more wood, so out the front door she went to the pile that she had magically cut a few days earlier. But before she could make it to the wood pile, she spotted Michaelys slumped over in the flower garden.
"Michaelys!" she called out as she ran to his still form.
She dropped to her knees next to him, gripping his arm in her hand and lightly shook him. "Michaelys," she whispered again. She quickly surveyed his face for any bruises, but only saw smudges of dirt. What had happened to him, she wondered to herself.
Still sitting next to him, she took a clean handkerchief from her pocket in an attempt to wipe some of the dirt from his cheek. She wished that she had the mana (power) to cast another levitate spell on him, to drag him inside, but she had been drained of the mana from the previous spell. All she could do right now, was to sit by him and wait for him to come around.

By Michaelys Feeling her touch on his face and hand, Michaelys roused himself to wakefulness. Looking at her, he is surprised by the fear he sees there. Trying to rise up quickly to reassure her, he finds himself weaker than he earlier surmised, and sank back on his heels. Smiling tiredly at her, he says, "I think I expended more energy then I had in reserve. If you could just help me up and into the cottage, I'm sure a cup of strong cider will revive me." As he stands, he digs into his pocket and hands her the tulip bulb.

As she watched him trying to stand, she was unsure he had the energy but waited to help him so that it didn't appear she felt he was weak. "Oh!" she gasped when he sank back down. She grabbed his arm to steady him, then concentrated in an effort to give herself more strength. She helped him to stand, then let him lean against her frame as she started the short distance to the back door.
The tulip bulb he had held in his hand was now in her pocket as she stood at her back porch. "Are you sure that you are alright?" she asked, knowing that more than likely he was; for she knew the energy one lost when casting spells.
Entering the kitchen, she led him to the nearest chair then poured up a large mug of hot cider. She joined him at the table with a mug of her own and a plate of sugar cookies. "Here, eat some of these. They always help me regain some energy."
She stared down into the amber liquid of the hot cider in the large pink mug then thought of all that had occured in the last year. Her fingers tightly gripped the mug and without looking up, she spoke, "I'm glad you found my cottage."

By Michaelys: *Picking up his mug to savor the aroma of mulled cider, he took a sip and felt the liquid caress his tongue and bolster his flagging energy. Taking a longer drink he quietly sighed in satisfaction and eyed the plate of cookies, trying to decide which one to conquer first. Hearing the little catch in her voice, he looked her way in surprise, but she was gazing into her drink. Focusing less on himself and more on her aura, he realized she carried a sadness around with her, as well as a smattering of loneliness. Disregarding his earlier misgivings, he reaches across the table and layed his hand upon hers. "Bre'? Are you ok?"

By BreCheye:
The warmth of his hand covering hers brought a tired smile to her face. Looking halfway up from her mug, she slowly closed her eyes then began to answer his question.
"Basically, yes, I'm okay. It's just been a very trying year."
She continued to draw the warmth from his hand while bowing her head with her eyes closed. "I found this cottage and fell in love with it, even though it was in great need of someone's care. I had hoped that those from my clan would drop by more often, but I guess their lives are too busy to be bothered with a simple Druid and her cookies. At least," she continued while now looking back into his eyes, "at least I feel safe... mostly safe... from being found by any of my father's men."
She reluctantly drew her hand from beneath his, then sipped at her cider. Setting the mug back down, she looked at her finger tips that lightly touched the ends of his fingertips. Not looking back up, she asked the Bard, "Have you ever been surrounded by many people and felt very alone?"

By Michaelys: Looking at her, he finally realizes the sense of sadness he has been feeling is from her loneliness. She has a beautiful home, but rarely has visitors, let alone guests. His finding the place must seem like a godsend, and he fervently prayed to his Goddess that he could linger. "Bre', I know what you mean. Except for the rare times I return to my clan, I spend a lot of time alone. Yes, I get to play at Pubs and Inns throughout the land, but I rarely get to be with someone I am close to. People are kind, and show gratitude for my songs, but I rarely get the chance to get to know anyone for longer than a season. Then the Fates send some interesting bit of news my way and I am off again. When I am in a crowded tavern, playing my songs for the crowds, everyone wants to be my friend. They buy me cider and the occasional small beer, and reward my performances with coin, but they rarely care enough to even want to get to know me better. Being a Bard can be a hard life, but the rewards when you come across a talented youngster in some small village is great. Being able to give a bit of instruction in their instrument of choice or teach a new song so they can entertain their friends when I am not around, is priceless, and one of the reasons I travel so much. But, it is lonely, too. I have thought many times that I may find another musicker, or a dancing partner to spend time with, only to find they have other interests besides traveling. None have been worthy of taking to my Clan." Looking back down at his mug, he sighs quietly. Wishing he had his lute, or even a woodwind to play to see if he could lift her spirits.
