This is just a short poem I wrote in high school. I was only first learning the craft of words, so freely admit it is nothing laudable. But it is mine, and I find the sound still sweet after all this time. And I thought I'd share.
The Turning of a Leaf The sun scorches The heat everlasting The wind horrid The pain of Being eaten alive
The shade is nice Thy neighbor friendly The wind pleasant The sweet knowledge that Everything will be all right

Warmth of the sun
Why can’t I open my eyes? I’m drowning in this sunrise, Pick me up; give me your hand to hold, My mind is spinning, I’m on overload,
Wrap your hands around my neck; bring me such sweet death, Constrict me, embrace me, I give you my last breath, Take all that I am, I’ve nothing else to give, Without you pulling me down, I have no reason to live,
Why can’t I open my eyes? I’m drowning in this sunrise, Pick me up; give me your hand to hold, My mind is spinning on overload,
I’m not asleep, I’m falling awake, I come to my senses; my life is not yours to take, You beat me; you bleed me till I can’t stand, I’m spiraling down; don’t know where I might land,
Warmth of the sun on my face, It dries my tears, and their disgrace, Let me stand on my own two feet, I drink it all in, and welcome the heat,
I deserve better than someone like you, I’m rinsing you off like my favorite shampoo, You swirl, you fade into the drain, Take a deep breath and smile, and forget this pain
Warmth of the sun on my face, It dries my tears, and their disgrace, Let me stand on my own two feet, I drink it all in, and welcome the heat

A great poem, Kitterkat! Thank you for sharing it, as well as the context in which it was created. That adds a great deal to the reading of it.
