I seem to be going through a phase where almost everything tries to flee.
Main culprits are Anacondas, and Warriors in Azteca. 85% of the time they flee - althought anacondas may stay for first hit then flee. I always flee from Jag (low wits) and never escape, then batter then 2nd hit so cant say whether they flee o attack or not.
Plus the Troopers and Peasants in Shangala - they never ever hang around - always flee. Also had Samurais and Shoguns flee regularly. Pandas never flee if I attempt to help out first.
Anyeone lese noticed anything remotely similar, or is it just me? Being going on for 2/3 days now....

You say this has been happening for 2-3 days. What's changed with your character? Did you equip a new piece of gear? Did you level up, gain or lose a large amount of stats?

this happens on occasion to some of my alts who are just a tiny bit too slow to catch a monster and kill it. try a different area till you get stronger, theres not much you can do save for upgrading your equipment, gaining stats (i think guts is the stat attributed to who gets to attack first?? idk), or using items. oh and i'd suggest running from anaconda as you dont lose a quest in doing so and have more quests to spend on warriors and jags and priests

Hmm. Well I have been enchanting my Jaguar fang and I levelled up Probably gained 50 skill or so in total and maybe 7/8g and 3/4w I cant see that I'll get any upgrades any time soon so I guess I'll have to persevere. Smitty what other things do you run from when questing? I'm desperate to gain wits and it works 20% of the time with the wild boars. Thanks for your info

I've got a few weapons with Bandit - I'll send one out to you today.
As for running, it's generally good to flee anything that can mezz you - heck, sometimes if I'm looking for particular items, I'll run from everything but that one monster. It's not running from particular monsters that gets you that Wit gain, but just successful fleeing in general.
I'd suggest you visit the Omniscient Oracle and look at the Questing Tips/Hints sub-board. Read over some of the posts there to get a lot of helpful suggestions regarding questing. A lot of experience posted there...

Yeah I think I'm making the mistake of trying to up my guts to quickly.
As you can see from my stats, my wits are very low I have been trying to get them up using the dicing in the castle and the fleeing technique and answering riddles from those that pose them, but it's seldom I get a wit that way. Running sometimes works but not very often. Dicing NEVER!
I am keeping on top of my charm too, but really want to advance my wits to be as close to my guts as possible.
Hearing of folk with 1000W shows it's possible, but it's just so darn hard!
I'll read over theinfo again and continue on struggling.
Cheers folks!

Getting good at gaining wits is something that is really difficult. Or, more accurately, it takes time and perseverance. As you can see from the stats of my main, are pretty equal...but this took about two years of work (admittedly, going on long breaks between questing ). So read up on the hints/strategies section, and prepare for some grinding work. More pointedly, my own strategy was to bulk up on trader skills to enhance the chance of running successfully away and retaining a quest, coupled with some more mage skills, along with running from A LOT of stuff. I worked on maxing out my guild skills first (and that hurts if you do it all at once - I'd recommend taking a guild skill, rebuilding the skills lost, taking another guild skill, rebuilding the skills lost...you don't gain a lot that way, but you don't lose a huge chunk either). But that's just me - there are other ways (dicing works for a lot of my alts at the moment). Figure out what works best for you.

Raise your guts super high so you can smash everything down in one almighty blow! ....at least thats how i do it but if you wanna raise wits go to the mountains and run from EVERYTHING. you'll get a ton of wits, just make sure you dont run into any dragons up there though i would would help the trolls and potentially get a great helm, and you can trade those for cool things. people are always looking for great helms and dwarf axes

OK So I aideed the trolls and got nothing I ran from everything else and got 2 wits - out of 160+ quests. Yes I got a lot of requests - maybe 100 or so, but almost everytime I fled andw as caught I battered them with one blow and intotal got 11 guts or so. Fleeing didn''t help me on this occasion. Should I be fleeing elsewhere - not in the mountains? Gawayn - having the Bandit enhanced weapon did nothing for me today I dont think. I'll try again tomorrow. I'm not expecting to get 20 wits in one day, but maybe 5/6? 2 or 3 is not uncommoon for me at the moment whether I run or answer riddles or help. Thanks for the continued input though folks

=/ when it says 'merchant training' i was once told that means trader skills.... idk my character has 27 trader skills 1184 guts 543 wits and 5261 charm and i get nearly 99-100% of my quests back after running, and average between 7 and 12 wits per day. you have a much higher chance of getting huge gains (because right now your chance of getting a wit is 1/75 compared to my 1/538 if your sig stats are correct) i mean i try to get as many stats as possible while earning the least amount of EXP. monsters get harder as you level up, so if you can up your skills while not gaining as much exp then you're rockin out since you're at that low wit range, another option would be to put your money in the silver storage save for a few thousand marks, then go to the queen and dice until A) you run out of marks or B) you have millions [just go and deposit that money again and start over if this happens, it usually does]. Dicing in the queens court is a great way of increasing wits because you have to win to gain a chance to get wits, and you can earn a bunch of money real fast

Getting 2-3 wits per day isn't the same as nothing - there are plenty people who'd be happy with such daily gains. Get more successful at running away (a mix of skill and trader guild skills, I believe). Unfortunately, there's no switch you can flip or area you can go to where suddenly you'll get 8-10 wits per day. Some days are good for stats, some days are bad. If you keep working on this, though, you'll eventually notice an increase. It's a long view I know, but there is some hope.
