How about a thread to post the various books we may be reading? I will go first...

Couple of things just now. For comfort due to some real trauma in my life. Ps 34:18 Ps 55:22 2 Cor 1:4
For light reading Lord Fouls Bane by Stephen Donaldson Truly a most awesome series. Read so many times, purely quality. Wordier than LOTR but far far darker.

I read Donaldson's initial Thomas Covenant trilogy a number of years ago. I should reread it, because I was not overly impressed on the first pass through.
Awesome to hear about a trip through the Hobbit. ;D
It was the first work of fantasy I was exposed to - my fifth grade teacher read it to the class from a gorgeous edition. I didn't realize it then, but it was a seminal moment in my life. I was hooked from that point and have never looked back.

Currently reading 'Naked Empire' by Terry Goodkind in his Sword of Truth series. 8th book in the series of 12 (not counting the novella). The series is extremely well written.

I will have to put that series on my radar Irishman, to be sure.
Sirrinu - that was my reasoning as well. not to mention I was given a great copy of it that LOTR for christmas. I am going to be starting the fellowship of the ring this week, maybe tonight...

I had some problems with Goodkind's writing, to be honest. The first couple of books were really well done, but I abandoned the series shortly thereafter. Just my own reaction, though, I know its been very popular.
If you enjoy that kind of reading, let me also recommend Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series. Another great one is Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series.

Gawayn: You may want to retry, the wrap up of the 11th book really brought all the elements of the story together. Another of my long-time favorite authors is David Eddings. His 2 epic fantasies The Belgariad The Mallorean Each one is 5 novels long and has a story that is very involved, but was written so that even a 9th grader can love it(It's about when I first started reading it) 2 follow up novels: Belgarath the Sorceror Polgara the Sorceress bring more depth to an already engaging story. He wrote 2 more epic novels The Elenium The Tamuli New characters(about knights) hint, hint Gawayn.

Aslana: I didn't see your comment about Zelazny - I have the same biiiig version. Into the 5th book now. Better as the story progresses, there's just a lot there.
Irishman: Had to laugh a lot here, in a good way. Eddings was what I cut my teeth on for fantasy! I love it. I have all the series you mention by him, and have read them multiple times. His (and his wife's) crowning achievement, however, is the standalone volume The Redemption of Althalus. A real high point for that era of fantasy, I think. My favorite thing about Eddings is his knack for dry humor - different than someone like Pratchett, but very effective. Dialogue as a whole was a strong suit for him, I think.

last book I finished cover-to-cover was The Art of Fielding, which I got for Christmas. Finished it in two days...it's been a while since I've been seriously reading, sadly. Currently I'm working through The Gunseller, by Hugh Laurie.
