I thought I'd post this here at D_S's suggestion.
I'm taking part in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). You can find out more about this online, but it's basically where you set yourself a goal of writing 50,000 words in the month of November. That works out to approximately 1,667 words every day. Doesn't have to be a masterpiece, just has to be words. Preferably coherent ones. I'm not going to bore you with what my story is about, but I thought it'd be fun to share my progress with you so far. As you can see, I'm a little behind.
Count by Day/Running Total Day 1:600------600 Day 2:600------1200 Day 3:1716------2916 Day 4:2091------5007 Day 5:132------5139 Day 6:0------5139 Day 7:0------5139 Day 8:1830------6969 Day 9:1828------8797 Day 10:604------9401 Day 11:1731------11132 Day 12:4257------15389 Day 13:1824------17213 Day 14:1419------18632 Day 15:2087------20719 Day 16:1875------22594 Day 17:1928------24522 Day 18:1101------25623 Day 19:0------25623 Day 20:3970------29572 Day 21:276------29848 Day 22:1689------31537 Day 23:1255------32792 Day 24:3817------36609 Day 25:1691------38300 Day 26:1819------40119 Day 27:3478------43597

Awesome Gawayn! I've always eyed that thing with interest, but I have never had nearly enough time to do it. Add on to the fact that I've only ever written one piece of creative writing and it took AGES, and I think it'll be a few years yet before I attempt this. I do plan to though, one day.

I"ll have to look up all I've written so far this month to see how many words that have burst from my keyboard.
If anyone can do this, you can Gawayn!

Yeah! NaNoWriMo! Placed squarely in the busiest month of the year.
I'm deathly behind. =(
Do you use Write Or Die, Gawayn?

I don't, Unknown, though I've heard thing mentioned a few times. I've just been going off my own drive and time management skills. You can see how well those are pseudo-working for me above. I'd go check the site out but, well, I'm too busy writing. Go write! If it helps, think of it as confined spamming.

You are doing well my friend, only very slightly behind your desired goal projection for now. You'll make up for it, I know Try not to save it all to the end though!

Hmm...confined spamming. An interesting way to think about it, yes. Very, very...interesting.

Ok, a little past the halfway point and I'm about 4.5k words behind where I need to be. I'm hoping to make up a lot of that ground this weekend! I'm really starting to feel some strain, forcing myself to churn out words every day (and really, I'm trying to make everything as good as possible along the way, even if it is a first draft). That's why I didn't meet my goal tonight, just because I'm feeling a bit burned out. Here's to huge bouts of writing tomorrow, though! Thanks everyone for their encouragement. It's wonderful being able to share this adventure with you all.

Halfway...what a milestone!? At this point, you must know you'll be able to finish it because all you have to do is what you've already done ...just one more time! I know the deadline can seem worse, but its the amount of FREE time , not DAYS that will help you get more lines done. Don't think of how few days are left, just keep in mind that the coming week is Thanksgiving, and I'm sure there will be ample time to complete this awesome goal

That's a good way of thinking about it, DS. I'm not too concerned yet. While the goal of NaNoWriMo is to write a novel in one month. The word count I'm currently showing is where I picked back up a story I'd started more than a year ago that ran out of steam. The characters and story have been fermenting for the past year while I've been engaged in other writing pursuits, so the whole story is laid out. I just have to write it. I won't hit the end of the story by the time the month finishes out, but it should take care of the bulk of the work. I'm very much looking forward to this upcoming week and free time. Especially so since I was unable to write at all today! EDIT: Not a bad writing day today. One or two more like this and I'll be caught up and more. Only a little over two days behind where I need to be!

You can see the progress above. I just need one more solid day of catching up and I'll be on track. It's been exhausting but fulfilling at the same time! Now I'm off to keep writing...

The last three days did not go as well - I ended the month with about 46,000 words. I could have technically made it, but I'd put a lot of things on hold throughout the month to be able to write what I did, and I realized I needed to face my other responsibilities. I don't look at it as any sort of defeat, however. I wrote a TON of stuff in a short amount of time, and I'll be picking up the story again very shortly, hopefully to have finished sometime at the start of the new year.
Maybe next year, with better planning, I can reach that 50,000! Thank you all for your encouragement and support throughout! All of you were good motivation to keep plugging away. ;D
