This is a new type of contest at W&W; never before seen at W&W; and of course the prize is absolutely ridiculous! In the title of this thread there is a mispelt word. 1. Find the word and spell it correctly. 2. Fix the missppelt word. 3. In proper English writing "[sic]" is used. What does this mean? Three parts and three prizes. $1,000,000M for each part -- haha. --- ----- ;D ;D ------- ----- And in order to receive your absolutely ridiculous prize you must spell your DC name correctlie [sic, correctly] so that I can send you the prize.

haha, none of those words are in the title. Good guess though. There is only one (1), {ONE}, word in the title that is miss-spelt [sic, misspelled]. This is a give-away hint.

Okay, okay, the title of this forum, not thread. A title is a name and more -- what is yur title? Baron, sir, iaai?, Mr., Doc, Dr., etc. Anybody familiar with "positive language feedback?" Anybody come across this in school, i.e. grade school, college (business), counselling? Title of a book, title of a chapter, title of a section within a book, title of an article, title of this site, etc.

Ok, another hint. The name of a book is its title. Inside a book there are many sections of which each has a title. Some of these are called chapters, indexes, prefaces, etc. A chapter title is basically a subtitle. If you've written an outline for something that you were going to write, the outline is a basically a system of titles and subtitles. Thanx for your participation; keep at it: it is not difficult. One of my many trades was as a typographer. One of the skills that a typographer has is proof reading -- correcting grammar and spelling mistakes. I hate spelling mistakes. I am also a computer scientist (college trained programmer+): a mistake in coding (spelling error) causes the program to not compile or to crash ... eventually.

Ok, enough is enough. I'm upping the prize money by 10k Marks. Let's see, 10,000 divided by 3 ... oh, that's too hard let's up it for each by 10k. So, that's 1,010,000 prize money for each of the three. Now this should really bring some action. Look for the extra "s." You know, newspapers and books used to have a lot less errors in them when they were proofed. Ad copy is still proofed and so are pictures ... but, evidently not, forum-subject subtitles.

There is a mistake in an old game that was played a few months back. In the games section (this one) the title reads "Ultimare Hero contest" The misspelled word is "ultimate".
I WIN!!!

Pah, no ya don't. Read my last hint -- "s." It's in a title. Individual threads that we little guys write have lots of errors -- they don't count. We're looking for the error that management made in the title threads that are blocked. Follow this thread back to its source. Just one little ol extra "s." "Ultimare" [sic, Ultimate] is a title -- do we have to have a ruling on this? I knew that extra 10k would bring new blood.

My argument for why "you are a loser" (song by ?? -- great song). 1. In the title of THIS thread 2. And I had already given the hint that there was an extra "s." "Ultimare" is not in THIS thread and is not missing an "s." However, it is under the title that has the error just like the "spelling bee" is. All you have to do is find the title for this thread, find the previous title that this thread falls under, find the title that that thread follows under, etc. until 'u reach the top title. The error is in one of those titles. Just follow it back instead of clicking forward. In other words, if you have reached here, use the back arrow, then come back here: along the way you will find the answer to the "spelling bee:" Then get help from a person that has authority to change the error; then go to the library and look up "sic." phewf!

The misspelled word is "contests" (spelled "constests" in the title of this subforum).
I can't tell the difference between the first and second questions in your original post. What is the difference between "Find the word and spell it correctly" and "Fix the missppelt [sic] word"?
[sic] is used to indicate that an incorrect spelling or unusual phrase/punctuation is used intentionally and that the writer is aware of it. Used most often (I think) when quoting a source verbatim.

Aha, we have a master of the erudite intelligentsia (must be because it took so long and what an intelligent and well-written response). Yahoo, now who is going to fix it. ;D ;D ;D You found the word, you spelled it correctly -- that's two, 2x 1,010,000 marks. If you have the power to fix it, then you get the third. Or maybe you are more diplomatic and can get it arranged. HAHAHA Or the powers that be can leave it and insert [sic, contests]. WOW, phewf. 1. I found the word, "constests." 2. If I spelled the word "constests" as conciliate or dogma (incorrect). Your response is correct: constests [sic, contests]. It's sort of a way to see if a person can follow directions and a silly way to up the prize money and make it three parts with the majority going to the person who actually found the word if he spells it correctly. AHA! WOW! ;D ;D ;D
