*Before everyone dispersed, Irishman knelt and called upon his Goddess to bless the foregathered clansmen*
A gentle feeling of peace fell upon the body and all weapons and armour were seen to glow momentarily.
With a shout, Irishman hoisted his axe above:
For Heart and For Clan!

Back in the interdimensional portal where he had been closely monitoring Earth and all living creatures, Vyn stared into a translucent globe. The Enemy was summoning an army but Sirinnu had caught wind of it.
"I am going to wait to intervene until defeat seems inevitable. I want to see their willingness to win."
"That would be wise, my friend," said Cyrus, a white tiger who stayed with Vyn in the portal.
Vyn slowly closed his eyes, said a prayer for the warriors, for Melanie who was out on a mission, and for strength and wisdom and clarity for the coming days of war.

It has been quite a long 2 days by the swamps, indeed
I bring news of a Shadow Army that has laid waste to the swamp lands...it appears we spent too much time in preparation and not enough getting things done! I fear we won't regain the swamps without a great deal of effort, and perhaps loss of life! I'd be willing to head to those barren lands, and send those foul creatures of the shadow world back to where they belong!!
gathers his remaining platoons of followers, and makes ready all soldiers for the upcoming battle.
My armies are ready to march and reclaim the swamps, if you but give us the word. Though, I might suggest that we develop some strategy before we go attacking an unfamiliar enemy. Whenever you decide you are ready...I am prepared to head into battle with you once again, old friend!
waits patiently to hear what the orc commander will plan

Irishman makes his way to the field on a grey stallion. As he comes alongside Dragon_Stalker he surveys the ruins of the once lovely swampland.
Irishmans' clan is much smaller now, but the mercenaries he hired are no less eager to assist in vanquishing the foe. He looks back over his shoulder at the hordes of merc's he brought along, all wielding axes and assorted short swords and shields. All in their plated leather and anticipating the bloodbath to come.
Dragon_Stalker, well met my friend. Should we engage the fell foe or give them a fair chance to flee e're we crush them beneath our steel shod hooves? My men are eager to plunder the foe for any riches that may be obtained after the slaughter!

takes a moment to consider whether to be merciful, or to simply crush the forces that have overtaken the swamp
I wonder if the inhabitants of the swamp would have preferred some mercy by this dark force...There's not much we know of this looming darkness, but it doesn't seem to me that it has the capacity to understand honor, nor retreat.
wonders what madness could be behind such a force....that it would drive them to slaughter the innocent and mostly defenseless inhabitants of the swamplands

Gawayn frees his sword from the fallen mass of yet another foe, the gleam from his elven armor undiminished by chaos of battle. Many of the enemy have fallen through the valor of his comrades already. He approaches Dragon_Stalker.
It seems a mindless force, for all its violence. The battle is not yet over, but I think we should look to what enemy directed it. Something greater and darker lurks in the shadows I fear. How should we go about discovering from whence this new threat has come?
Any more questions were halted as Gawayn's paladin brethren Palavar and Bedwyr met a fresh onslaught from the enemy. Gawayn would not leave them in need. He raised his shield and flashed his sword, ready.

Not to be outdone by a mere paladin, Irishman unleashes his mercenaries.
Ho men! Dare ta take on this foe and defeat them e're all the fun is had by these knights!
Eagerly they pursue the undead foe into the dark reaches of the swampland, their silver battle axes gleaming amidst the darkness. Manys' the dread foe that was vanquished upon that field. The mercenaries joined the Paladin's in their battle and many friends were made as each side supported the other.
Irishman found himself back to back with Gawayn. Smiling at his friend they cut the foe down with the ease of battle hardened warriors.
My friend, 'tis good to see you here. Let's cut these undead down and return victorious to Sirinnu!

beholds the vast battle that it taking place before his very eyes. As he watches two comrades fell beast after shadowy beast, he studies their strategies (as well as the enemies') to assess whether victory was immanent ... or if this were only just the beginning...
As he watched the paladin and mercenary figures slice through the shadow hordes with great skill...it was apparent that their focus was indeed great. Their strength combined would have made it near impossible to successfully withstand.Great fighting, Warriors! It seems the beasts are no match for true fighters of this realm. Their days of preying on the week are long over!!!Just as the words escaped his mouth, he realized something troubling...threatening, even.
With each swing, kick, or blow delivered by the warriors, the shadows figures, while disappearing into thin air, became like a vapor. The vapor filled the air, and made the entire swampy region a thick, black fog. From where did these creatures come? It was a question the brave paladin wondered, and one that indeed demanded an answer....
Where were the corpses of the slain beast? Why was the fog getting so very thick? And.....CLANK!!!! Why did it seem that the warriors were fighting with greater and greater ferocity with each and every killWarriors, beware! I'm not sure what that thick fog is, but I suspect it cannot be good to breathe in!

*As Irishman and Gawayn slay more of the foe, the black fog comingles deeper in the swamps interior. A few of his men that had fallen in the melee now stumbled to their feet. An odd red gleam appeared in their eyes and they fell on their mates who were quite surprised to be set upon.
The blades of these men were no longer silver, but bore a dark stain upon their once gleaming blades. The black stain cut thru men and hastily raised shields alike. Manys the man that was lost only to be pulled back to his feet like some dread marionette and thrust back into the fray. As the tide of the battle turned, Irishman and Gawayn found themselves slowly being pushed back.
My friend, I'm afraid we must fall back. Valor is great but t'will only lead to many deaths, ours included. I prefer to not know our enemy quite that well, at the moment. If your paladins can hold the line so we may confer with Dragon_Stalker, perchance we can turn my men back to the heroes they once were!

You are right, my friend. We must buy time to discover the method behind this madness.
Barking a few short commands, Gawayn ordered his paladins to slowly withdraw. Their shields were held close together, swords darting out to only drive back the more vicious attacks.
My paladins can cover the retreat. We can array around that rise where Dragon_Stalker is. It'll provide the best defense these swamps offer, I think. You go on ahead and lead the wounded to him for healing. Between the three of us, we'll find a way. I'll meet you there shortly, after I'm sure the defenses will hold.

Irishman sounded a retreat on his horn. His men currently engaged in battle gladly yielded their positions to the holy Paladins and withdrew, carrying their wounded comrades with them.
As they approached the rise around Dragon_Stalker, they knelt with Irishman while he beseeches his Goddess for healing and restoration. After a moment a glow begins to radiate from Irishmans' hands. Where he lays his hands, wounds rapidly close, knitting the flesh back together. The glow spreads up his arms as he calls forth a blessing on the field of battle. The mercenaries weapons regain their luster and the Paladins' weapons begin to glow with a holy light. All the warriors strength has been renewed.
As Irishman calls quietly to his Goddess, Y'n Varra, a breathless hush descends over the battleground. A pure light radiates from his body, then a concussive blast spreads outward felling all but the Paladins on the battlefield.
The red glint fades from his mens eyes, and they shake themselves as though coming out of a long sleep. The haze of death is withdrawn and the men quickly return to the rise to fend off the undead.
Irishman himself collapses to the ground, all his energy spent.
"Gawayn,"he whispers "plan the attack. I can do no more for now."

Gawayn sees the effects Irishman's blessing has on the field of battle. Taking the momentary reprieve, he rushes up the hillside. Seeing that his friend is spent but mending, he continues on, arriving beleaguered before Dragon_Stalker.
We hold the field now, but our enemy is cunning. The path to victory seems perilous indeed. Do you have any guiding wisdom as to what the best course would be? What craven mind is behind such destruction? Have we no other allies who might lend their courage and skills to relieve such adverse conditions?

the radiating light filled the entirety of the swampy battlefield. The warmth that came from it was immense, yet penetrated deeper than just the skin. It seemed the whole sense of alarm and chaos had dwindled and that all would be okay
Sir Gawayn! This has been a revealing battle, indeed! It is difficult to discern what we must do next....with so much mystery that remains to be unveiled regarding our former adversaries. I believe it is in our best interest to regather our troops at the Castle's Keep and to report news of this attack to our leader.
Dragon_Stalker orders 10 of his finest men to give aid to the paladins and mercenaries
You must help those weakened mercenaries and paladins collect themselves. Make sure they make it back to the castle safely! They'll need someone to guard them while en route, for their strength was surely spent fighting bravely against those shadowy fiends. Sir Gawayn and Irishman...you have fought bravely! I'm sure that each of you have witnessed some things that might give insight into potential weaknesses or possibly even the origin/purpose of this attack. The armies at home must know how to be prepared!
Dragon_Stalker remained to survey the battlefield, and charged his remaining forces with the task of searching for survivors and inhabitants of the swamps....surely they weren't all destroyed before the warriors arrived....
Men, find the survivors! If there are wounded, tend to them. If there are any able-bodied that remain, help them gather their belongings. This place is no longer safe; it is to the castle gates for their own protection!
The men scattered in every direction..some to assist the mercenaries....some to search for local inhabitants that might have survived.....but Dragon_Stalker's gaze was fixed to the distance beyond the goblin mounds not so far away. There were dark clouds hovering menacingly in the sky just past where the goblin dwellers lived. What evil was lurking in those mounds...? Why was there some new (or was it OLD?) evil that seemed to emanate from that area? The thought that the goblins would suffer the same fate as the swamp dwellers was enough to make the brave warrior sick...but what if it were worse? What chance to resist the dark forces would the goblins have...when the mightiest holy warriors had succumbed to it?
"We're gonna need more that just swords and spears..."muttered the warrior to himself
